work areas...

I have been busy and I have been busy... everywhere! Sometimes just looking at the work area, even at times that no specifics have been placed or defined, I find it so satisfying! Work in progress becomes the starting point of the thought sequence for a new "story", the turn leading to the new phase in the development of an idea or even to the quest for a new "thought".
Anyway, I get carried away and I almost forgot what I initially wanted to say. Oh yes! I wanted to show (or show off???) snippets of my work surfaces: my work table, a capture of my iMac's screen, the drying rack at the studio with the day's work placed to dry. So here I welcome you to a close-up of what lately my days are all about...

piling treasures...

It's funny how certain similarities appear out of things not similar at all! My newly created paste papers and monoprints spread and piling on my work table and dried leaves swept by the sidewalk... For me all of these represent true treasures; they are my precious raw materials for future compositions...

daydreaming...

This lovely orchid was given to me by a dear friend; talking about a gift that keeps on giving... every day since it came to me.
It's incredible how much "white" daydreaming her beautiful flowers have offered me. It's placed on my desk, and can't help looking at it and then looking at it some more... It's almost like a magnet; a crisp white, fairy tale magnet pulling me into a state of peaceful, calm bliss! Of course daydreaming is not as deep as making me forget the need to photograph it, a sure way to be able to lose myself in its company again later, when her ephemeral beauty will be long gone.

my new diary!

The minute I saw this diary, I knew immediately I had to have it! I saw it at the Frozen Fountain in Amsterdam, an amazing store selling the very best examples of contemporary design home accessories! The illustrations are all from Russian children's books from the 20s and 30s;  every page presents a "story"  and to me a strong reminder of images, impressions and memories from our 2 weeks visit to Russia this past summer... So with some nostalgia I am  flipping the pages and rediscover how powerful and how beautiful folk art is, and how much it shows the similarities among distant people...

thoughts after the freeze...

Well the freeze is over! This morning I  uncovered some of the plants, brought out some others and tried to be optimistic about the renaissance I hope to see in certain areas of my garden. Sadly there are sure signs of plant life that has ended... Contemplating the brown withered remains of the plants lost, I noticed the drops on this beautiful cactus rose, looking so much like tears about to be shed...
Perhaps plants do have feelings after all; maybe my cactus rose is mourning the loss of some of her companions that won't be there anymore.

photographing art

Today I ended up spending a good portion of the morning trying to photograph some of my latest work. Every time I have to do this, I end up appreciating even more my photographers friends' skills and talents... The most challenging work to capture is this latest of my books: "apparitions". I ended up with a huge number of photos I now need to further look and sort out... Anyway, I am almost satisfied with the results, at least I had the perfect good day light and enough enthusiasm to call it a successful playing photographer day!
More on my Artist's Book "apparitions" here!

my cardinal friend!

He visits every morning and he often stares at me through the window...
